This is an event not to be missed, the people over at the Lesedi Film center are having a Fundraiser check out the info on the event,

"YOUNG CITY is a showcase of original artwork by local painters and photographers at Baron Gallery in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC. A benefit event, Young City will pay tribute to the inspiration found in children from cities around the world. There is a promising common theme that children can overcome tremendous odds if given a fair amount of love and guidance from their communities.

YOUNG CITY will take place on Thursday, December 17, 2009 from 6–10pm. Enjoy open bar and food, music, art and participate in a silent auction of the works of art on display. At around 7:30pm, the presentation will begin. Keynote speeches by Lesedi Film Center’s director, former students and a surprise special guest will precede an exclusive screening of a short compilation video highlighting Lesedi Film Center’s work over the last three years. A Q&A will follow and guests will be invited to make further donations. The party will progress as the music gets hotter. A portion of the proceeds from art sales will go towards Lesedi Film Center. 100% of all ticket sales and donations will go directly to Lesedi Film Center.

What is Lesedi Film Center, you may want to know?

Lesedi Film Center began providing summer and after-school filmmaking workshops to teens of color in the summer of 2007 in the Bronx, New York. We’ve reached dozens of youth throughout New York City by partnering with schools and community centers such as the Boys and Girls Club of America, Tompkins Square Middle School, and The Artists Collective for Social Change. We’ve enjoyed the success of our program, confirmed by the positive feedback we’ve received from our youth and the greater community. Lesedi is a Zulu name meaning “the light of the community”. We aim to live up to our name.

This is a fundraiser event, so we kindly ask for contributions of
$25 at the door.

Consider this: twenty-five dollars is about how much you'd spend taking someone out to the movies - minus the popcorn. Take Lesedi out to the movies, and maybe soon one of the children in our program will have a film in bright lights at a marquee near you...
