If you ever get a chance to spend time in Tamar Kali's Psychochamber you won't want to leave. Her performance at the Irondale Center in Brooklyn, NY literally moved audience members to tears. The 6 member all female string ensemble hauntingly translated her rock repertoire into sharp melancholy orchestral odes of hard living, anger and love.
I don't say lightly that Tamar-Kali has one of THE voices of our times. Moving from soulful crooning to rock growls to operatic hollers, she puts what some people today call singing to shame and all while conducting an ensemble. Tamar doesn't get the press and prestige she deserves. See her now while you can afford to because who knows when this star will shoot.
Here are more photos from the show and her Facebook...
Check out the an interview I did with her last year at the Afro-Punk Festival...
Expect the full length album "Black Bottom" sometime this summer.
