Artist to watch...Bibi Tanga & The Selenites

French music group Bibi Tanga & The Selenites are a funkadelic mind trip. Birthed out of the mind of Bibi Tanga, a native of the Central African Republic, this musical project is in my opinion the first really push forward in funk music in years. Taking cues from classic funk soul brothers ie Curtis Mayfield, Roy Aryes, and contemporaries in Afro-funk ie Keziah Jones, Bibi Tanga & The Selenites condense their various musical input including hip-hop, Jazz, and soul and create a synergistic volley of sound. It just propels you out of your set to dance. Once more even the name of the band - The Selenites are a reference to a mind blowing experience. The Selenites were in HG Wells "The First Men In The Moon" a moon-dwelling civilization. Coincide the groups perchance for dandy fashion of the era in which the book was published and you add on another layer of mucisal sci-fi. They released the album Dunya this year so check it out.
