Afro-punk Festival wrap up.

-Photo James Spooner, Director of Afro-Punk

From its humble beginnings as a documentary project for Director James Spooner
trying to find himself in the veiled world of music and culture, race and norms Afro-punk has come along way. Joining forces with Matthew Morgan, Spooner began to do more with his film and crafted the festival. Being the 5th year of the festival it exploded from a few shows in clubs at it inception to a huge out door festival, with this year a skate and BMX contest with the promise of creating urban X-games activities in the future. I myself was apart of the background busying myself doing what I can, because that's what I do, helping it run as smooth as possible. I couldn't get as much footage or any interviews as i would of liked much to my distaste. Fortunately I can rely on the community, the bases the roots of the movement the reason why afro-punk exist as it does and continuing into the future, to pick from there resources to help in this wrap up.

I'm really impressed by what people caught and put together like this photo clip reel set to music from pcimprezzive detailing the Afro-punk Skate and BMX park,

Joya Bravo

JOYA BRAVO

Joya Bravo is the shiiiiiiiit. I caught up with the violin maven at the Afro-punk Smash event, may 27, at Webster Hall and I was blown away with her stage presence. She just puts it to the wall and lets the band wail away.

She started out soft with a little violin bow play,

Then launched into this rockous first song,

I also loved the cover she did of 311's "Amber",

My girl just keeps on hitting it with the ill violin medley,

Afro-Punk Brooklyn Based BUT Borderless Meet Up/Kick Back

These are the photo's for the event that went down. It was a dope setting. We stayed up all night long doing live feeds and eating drinking and being merry.

The group doing a little webstuff.

Ororo Monroe and Rhyson

Sonny Bombs and Saru Ookami Biby

Not A Punk and Danielainfinity

We did a grip of introductions and then got to the drinking and merriment. We also did a group writing exercise. As people entered the party I asked if they could write random sayings or words on post-it's. When a lot off people got in on it I broke out the purpose. I took a random post-its and read it out loud. We were then to do a two minute writing off the topic, then go around the room sharing what we wrote. It was fun to see what people wrote.
